There was a special energy in the air at Gramercy Theater on Monday. The house was full while Young Devyn set the tone in her atmospheric opening set. Fans were perfectly tuned and ready to see Skip Marley take the stage as part of his The Change Tour. The 25-year-old singer-songwriter showed the sold-out crowd why he was nominated as iHeart Radio’s best new artist.
Skip took the stage and the resemblance he shares with his grandfather Bob Marley was uncanny. However, the similarities between the two go beyond physical characteristics. Skip, much like his grandfather uses his music to call for change. The first song played at Gramercy Theater as part of Marley’s The Change Tour was the moving ‘Lions.’ The track set a perfect tone for the rest of the evening and fans were glued from the very start.
The Change tour marks the first US Headline tour for the young artist. Of the tour Marley said, “Excited to finally bring the music to the people. This tour marks a change for the better.” Throughout the night the artist sang songs and change rang in many of those lyrics. The crowd especially loved his performance of his grandfather’s song ‘War.’
Marley’s change tour kicked off as a celebration on Bob Marley’s 77th Birthday. The announcement for the tour came with the Let’s Take It Higher documentary, which features H.E.R, Rick Ross, D Smoke, Damian Marley, Cedella Marley, Marcia Griffiths & Inner Circle.
