Scarypoolparty Is A Certifiable Can’t Miss Live Act – Webster Hall Review

At the end of August, Los Angeles-based artist Scarypoolparty (aka Alejandro Aranda) released his impressive 21-track album, The Act of Forgiveness. The LP stands as an incredible exhibit of Aranda’s artistry. Entirely self-produced, the artist recorded the album at LA’s iconic Village Studios and Capitol Studios. More impressive, however, Aranda recorded the 105-minute record in just nine days.

Scarypoolparty’s artistic integrity rings through much of his songwriting. Both vocally and sonically. The 27-year-old artist combines a variety of genre elements, from classical themes to hip hop, R&B, pop, and a hint of alt-rock. Each song is impeccably produced and has strong instrumental themes that combine with Alejandro’s smooth vocals. Seeing Scarypoolparty live, you really see the instruments shine. The four-piece band collaborates beautifully, often creating unique sounds I haven’t heard at other live shows.

Scarypoolparty brings a different element to their live show. Nowhere was this more evident than the third song of the set when playing ‘Holy Rejection.’ The chill song with smooth beats you hear in the studio recording became a more up-tempo jam session that the whole ballroom was moving to. With echoing drum beats with enchanting riffs of the guitar, the song was hard not to dance to. Scarypoolparty danced so hard he needed a minute to catch his breath. Post song exclaiming, “New York! I’ve never eaten so much pizza in my life. Malibu is coming next. After I catch my breath.”

Song after song, the set got better. Aranda would rotate from acoustic guitar to the seated keyboard. Sometimes playing both in each song. Both of which he plays masterfully and intentionally. Seeing Scarypoolparty is seeing true and pure artistry.

After busking on street corners and gigging in Los Angeles, Aranda was invited to join the touring band of Twin Shadow, who helped mentor him as a producer. Aranda went on to appear on the 17th season of American Idol, where his artistic integrity took center stage. Alejandro Aranda was the first artist to ever play only original songs in each appearance of Idol. However, while it hadn’t been seen before on the show his songs and performances carried him to a second-place finish.

Since then, Scarypoolparty has garnered tens of millions of streams and an incredible fanbase. The artist has released two albums and the impressive concept EP ‘Doom Hologram.’

Live the sounds have a taste of nostalgia with a sound comparable to some of the early 2000’s rock outfits but with genre elements that make it completely unique and groundbreaking. Live or on the studio albums, Scarypoolparty is impressive and is making some of the best new music out today.

I’m glad to see Scarypoolparty getting the recognition he deserves. He is a once-in-a-lifetime artist who is unique in so many ways. Not only is he unique, but his art is incredibly beautiful, healing, and mesmerizing all at once, even the hard hitting industrial songs. I’m 61 years old with a lifelong appreciation of music. And I’m not ashamed to admit that I even joined his fan club. If ever an artist deserves recognition worldwide, the beautiful, vulnerable, and humble soul, Alejandro, is the artist for the millenium.
