Friday morning was a special experience to be able to see the Platinum certified artist Sigrid in an intimate show at the Empire State Building Observatory. The superstar singer-songwriter was less that 15 hours off of an electric sold-out performance at Brooklyn Steel on Thursday night. Despite the room at the Empire State Building being a much smaller room, with no stage or lights, the Norwegian artist brought the same powerhouse voice to this acoustic set.

Fans took the elevator 86 floors high to surround a makeshift stage in the iconic Empire State Building Observatory. Sigrid, and two guitarists Liva and Sondre, sat on stools for the coziest of acoustic sets. The trio began their performance with the song ‘Sucker Punch’ where Sigrid’s vocals echoed beautifully throughout the observatory. After performing the song ‘Head on Fire’ which earned her the NME Best Collaboration award for the project she released with Griff, the artist made a mention of the coziness of this intimate show. Sigrid went on to introduce her next song as one that is older, but one she still listens to to cheer herself up. Fans cheered as she introduced ‘Don’t Kill My Vibe.’

Earlier this month, the artist made waves with the announcement of her highly-anticipated second album How To Let Go. On Friday, she played some songs from the upcoming album. The first was one about letting go of fears and doubts. The second was one titled ‘Grow’ which takes a journey from her hometown in Norway and losing that sense of belonging to it while traveling, but also feeling at home everywhere. The songs were truly beautiful.

The artist continued with performances of ‘It Gets Dark’ and ‘Don’t Feel Like Crying.’ There was a magic in the room. Each song built off of each other. Seeing it in an acoustic set was unique. Sigrid noted that they had never played in that constellation before (as an acoustic trio) and that both Liva and Sondre were excited about their new guitars. Sondre went on to explain his higher-level music knowledge of how the acoustic set is letting their be incredible overtones with its strings. Sonically what those two were creating with their acoustic guitar and acoustic bass was amazing as well.

Whether it is the giant warehouse of Brooklyn Steel or on stools in an observatory to less than a hundred adorning fans, Sigrid puts on an incredible show with beautiful music and lyrics. It was a pleasure to see it.
