Twenty-year-old singer/songwriter poutyface first went viral in 2019 during the beta test of the songwriting app Voisey. She wrote over 150 songs on Voisey and her songwriting led her to a record deal with Island Records and a publishing deal with Warner/Chappell. Since then poutyface has put together a string of popular releases garnering millions of streams.

Today, the impressive songwriter is back with a single that is sure to get stuck in your head. ‘Cherry Picking’ is an ode to 2000s pop punk and perfectly combines distorted guitar riffs with its echoing vocals. Typical of other poutyface tracks the single has strong lyrics and don’t be surprised if you find yourself singing the chorus throughout the day.

Of the release, poutyface shares: “’Cherry Picking’ is about being used by someone for their own personal validation. I’ve had relationships and friendships where I gave way too much. This song feels like spinning out. It’s about losing your mind trying to keep someone around who isn’t concerned with anyone but themselves… the ones who pick off your energy whenever the fruit looks ripe enough to feed them.”

Since 2020 poutyface has become known for the detail of her lyrics. The inspiration of her songwriting comes from many places and genres, however, one similar element remains and that is her commitment to strong lyrics.

“I’m a massive believer in the importance of pen game,” poutyface said. “All of my biggest inspirations are incredible lyricists, Frank Ocean, Kendrick Lamar, Mereba, to name a few. I’m also a huge fan of Doja Cat… I think I’m attracted to music with a lot of soul, but honestly, I listen to every genre and pull inspiration from every angle. And my taste is constantly changing. Ultimately, great lyrics are the common thread.”
