Last week ODESZA released its first song in four years “The Last Goodbye” (feat. Bettye LaVette). Now the duo is releasing an accompanying visual that brings a cinematic power to the song that is being widely praised. The track features acclaimed blues & soul singer Bettye LaVette vocals as well as video for the visual.
Video of LeVette is archival footage of performing the vocal source material on her 1965 song “Let Me Down Easy.” The footage plays cinematically behind a well choreographed light show and silhouettes of the added instruments.
Just one week after the release of ‘The Last Goodbye’ the track has garnered over 4 million streams globally. The band gained buzz for the track with its cryptic social media posts to create buzz. Born out of discovering the original vocal in Bettye LaVette’s 1965 song “Let Me Down Easy,” the duo got to work to create a beautiful cinematic single.
On the track, ODESZA notes: “This song was born out of the concept of trying to bring these lasting, defining musical pieces like the 1965 release of “Let Me Down Easy” by Bettye LaVette into a modern and contemporary electronic setting. The idea of bringing two worlds together, that at first seem distant, has always been something we’ve been drawn to. It was an absolute honor to be able to work with Bettye’s voice over the course of writing the track. She’s able to convey emotion with her vocal work unlike any other. To date, this has been one of the more fulfilling songs we’ve had the chance to work on as artists. We hope everyone who listens enjoys the track as much as we did making it.”
After a four year hiatus the Grammy nominated duo of ODESZA are back with what may be one of their biggest tracks yet. Listen to it here.
