Last October, NPR Music asked Argentinian rapper and singer and Latin Grammy nominee Nicki Nicole to perform for Tiny Desk, where she held a bandoneon-style jam session with her band to celebrate the Hispanic Heritage Month.
With more than 12 million views, the artist announced that it is now available on all digital platforms.
Tiny Desk Concerts, or “El Tiny”, as it was called, produced a special programming dedicated to recognizing the contributions of the diverse Latino communities in the United States for the Hispanic Heritage Month.
NPR music invited a top selection of ten Latino artists with different genres and styles representing at least eight different Latin American countries and cultures. In this way, Nicki Nicole is one of the artists to participate among J Balvin, Camila Cabello, Prince Royce, and others.
“Nicki Nicole is here to stay, as she moves further and further away from any preconceived notions of her art,” warns El Tiny.
Nicole performed a six-song set of five of her songs and a freestyle. The chosen set list represents her origin and evolution as an artist.
For the occasion, Nicki added choristers, bandoneon, violins, and cello, which gave her music a new flavor.
She opened the 15-minute show with her hit “Colocao”, in which through the mix of lyrics, rhythms, and voice she shows people the way she grew up in. In her second song, “Mala Vida”, Nicole sings about the bad life she can’t escape from. The third song, “Wapo Traketero”, is the first song she released in 2019 and led her to fame managing to get millions of views on YouTube. In the fourth song “Parte de Mi”, Nicole sings about love when you feel like you don’t need much more in life than your loved one, followed by an unmissable freestyle and finally she closed up the show with “Baby”, a song about a forbidden love.
