Fresh off an energetic performance at Elsewhere in Brooklyn, Kyle Dion took the stage in the upstairs lounge at the Ludlow House. However, the setting at Ludlow House was much different from the ruckus crowd the night before. Dion traded the jumping Brooklyn crowd for a more kick back vibe in the Ludlow Houses, Velvet room.
It was in this intimate room that the velvety smooth vocals of Kyle Dion shined. The band played in front of a backdrop that reminded me of my grandmothers living room with its subtle furniture and wallpaper, but the music was anything but. From the second Dion sang the first note of ‘No Rules’ it was evident we were hearing a top-tier falsetto voice.
While Kyle Dion’s music lends more to the high-energy crowd he played at other stops on tour, I was happy to be able to sit and appreciate his incredible vocal tones. A big part of the set consisted of Dion’s recently released album ‘Sassy.’
Of the impressive album Dion notes, “I named it SASSY because the album embodies that attitude and has a lot of back-talk, big mouth vibes. At times it’s narcissistic, but also it was fun expressing myself however I want without any repercussions.”
That expression of self was on full display as Kyle Dion performed. Not only was it displayed through his songwriting, but through his performance as well. It was a quiet and chill room, but by the end of the set the crowd was on their feet matching the energy from the stage.
After a short set it is clear the Kyle Dion is a live act you don’t want to miss and a voice sonically and lyrically you need to listen to.
