Mt. Joy released their newest single ‘Evergreen’ on Friday May 13th. The single comes ahead of their highly anticipated third full length Orange Blood which is set to be released on June 17th. We heard the song live at Shaky Knees earlier this month and it is incredible. The track features punchy guitar grooves that pull you in when combining with the always-impressive vocals of frontman Matt Quinn. Accompanying the single was a visual to go along with it. The music video features, friend of the band Creed Bratton from The Office.
The video is packed with nostalgia. From the first scene of Bratton in what you remember your grandparent’s kitchen looking like with vintage wallpaper and appliances, to similar themes following in the adventures Creed finds himself in. The Office actor finds himself joining in on a retro Jazzercise class full of the outfits you only see at 80’s dance parties. This isn’t the last class you see Bratton take, a mishap while Jazzercising leads him to take karate lessons and then golf lessons. In each, accidents ensue and Creed seems like a magnet to head blows similar to the viral Scott Sterling video.
Relief sets in when the bruised and bandaged Bratton takes an art class, because what can go wrong there? Sure enough adventure turns into disaster again. But that only leads him back to the drawing board when everything seems together with him behind a vintage keyboard with all the motions he learned that day and into his final adventure, a band! The visuals in this are incredible. If you watch this and don’t find yourself scrolling DePop or planning a shopping trip to your local thrift store to find a jacket similar to the one Creed is in, we are two different people. It tells a fun story to backed by your new favorite song.

‘Evergreen’ follows their last single ‘Lemon Tree’ the intro track to the upcoming Orange Blood album. ‘Lemon Tree’ was hailed as “a next-level song” by NPR and is currently Top 20 at AAA radio, followed by the colorful album title track, “Orange Blood.
“Evergreen is the shot of tequila on this record. It’s a love song about trusting what you have during times when the world seems to be changing faster than we can keep up. It’s hard, but I think the only times I’m truly happy are when I embrace the insanity around us and pound my chest just enough to believe that if we stick together, we’ve got all we need to make it to the other side.” – Says frontman Matt Quinn.
We had a chance to hear these three songs from the upcoming record live and they are magic. As a band, they are quickly becoming one of the best live acts. Their extended solos and guitar, keyboard, and drum riffs that we saw at the festival remind me of a summer with the Grateful Dead, or the closest replica that I’ve seen with Dead & Company. Mt. Joy is a cant miss band live. They announced a tour to accompany the new album. Their US Headlining “Orange Blood” 2022 Tour (with special guests Grammy®-nominated West Coast singer-songwriter Madison Cunningham, L.A. based indie-folk trio Wilderado, and The Brook & The Bluff).
The tour will kick off in South Carolina on June 16 and make stops in Seattle, Los Angeles, New York City, Chicago, New Orleans, and Dallas before wrapping in Austin, Texas on November 5. Go to http://www.mtjoyband.com/tour for more info on tickets.
