Shaky Knees Festival is this weekend, and Road Trip Playlists is incredibly excited to be there covering the event. As part of our coverage we would like to present our must see acts from the stacked Shaky Knees lineup. With artists like Green Day, Rainbow Kitten Surprise, Grandson, and more. While this is the first music festival we have covered, this is how we will be mapping out our day to catch every can’t miss band.
Motherfolk at 12:30-1:15 PM
Motherfolk who is currently on tour through June, are making an exciting stop at Shaky Knees, Friday afternoon. Fresh off of the release of their new single ‘all I need’ the impressive indie rock band will be at the Peachtree main stage. Motherfolk is a band that I have seen pre-pandemic in Salt Lake City, Utah and I cannot wait to hear their newer songs and hopefully some music from their forthcoming EP ‘the bees’ which is set to release the same day as the festival.
Flipturn 1:15-2:00 PM
Flipturn is a band that blew me away as an opening act for Wilderado this year. This five-piece band blew me away with their live performance at Bowery Ballroom. The sound they create together is fun and energetic. Seeing them at a Festival is an absolute must for us and should be for you if you are attending this weekend.
Barns Courtney 2:00-2:45 PM
Upon seeing the Shaky Knees lineup, Barns Courtney was one of the names immediately circled as a must see for us. The dynamic English singer-songwriter recently announced his 2022 tour schedule, and you we can’t wait to see it live. With unique swagger and his powerful vocals, Courtney is one of the most anticipated sets of the entire festival for us. Reminiscent of Jack White or his side project The Raconteurs with its classic yet semi-punk rock feel. Find us at the Peachtree main stage for this performance.
Acid Dad 2:00-2:45 PM
This is one of those be in two places at once episodes of The Flintstones or Boy Meets World. We don’t know how we are going to pull it off, but we will find a way to see parts of both sets at this time slot. Acid Dad is a must see. Being based in Brooklyn we are familiar with Brooklyn psych scene stars. The band, who first started recording in their Bushwick basement recently released their new LP ‘Take It From The Dead‘ which is a timeless record that we look forward to hearing songs from live.
Faye Webster 2:45-3:30 PM
Faye Webster released one of my favorite albums of 2021 with I Know I’m Funny haha and is one of the circled names on the Shaky Knees schedule for us. We can’t wait to be at the Piedmont stage to see the Atlanta-based singer-songwriter. Webster brings her signature voice and personality to the stage and I am excited to see it live. Her humor is one of my favorite things about her hence her aptly titled LP, and it will be fun to see it in her set. If you are going to Shaky Knees, Faye Webster is a can’t miss!
Lennon Stella 4:15-5:15 PM
We will be staying at the Piedmont stage for the 4:15, Lennon Stella set. Stella recently released an enchanting cover of Dido’s, Thank you, and we can’t wait to see the star live. Lennon’s debut album ‘Three. Two. One’ was wildly impressive, and we can’t wait to see and hear these songs live.
Sports Team 4:15-5:15 PM
The 4:15-5:15 Friday slot is the first instance for a “divide and conquer” situation for the road trip playlists team. Sports Team is a can’t miss for us and so while some stay at the Piedmont stage, others will head to the Ponce De Leon stage to see this stellar British band. Their performance will be in support of their highly anticipated new album, Gulp!, which is set for release on August 12 via Island UK/Bright Antenna. Gulp!, follows the groups 2020 Mercury Prize-nominated debut album ‘Deep Down Happy,’ and makes this a powerhouse festival lineup that we cannot wait to hear and experience.
Nilüfer Yanya 5:15-6:15 PM
British singer/songwriter Nilüfer Yanya has an incredible sound in her recordings that I cannot wait to see how it is replicated live at the Criminal Records stage. The electric indie pop guitar-heavy music combines beautifully with the soulful vocals of Yanya. The singer-songwriter recently released her new album ‘Painless’ and it is a wonderful listen.
Spoon 6:15-7:15 PM
Spoon Spoon Spoon, is one act if you are going to Shaky Knees that you absolutely can’t miss. Fresh off the release of their tenth album, the band is taking the Piedmont stage. As soon as the lineup was announced I pictured myself dancing to this band during golden hour and now it is happening. Let time go Inside Out at 6:15 and enjoy the incredible setlist that Spoon is sure to break out.
Rainbow Kitten Surprise 7:15-8:15 PM
Rainbow Kitten Surprise is the second concert that I went to in my life, and one of the times I fell in love with live music. It is still one of my favorite sets I have ever seen, and I can’t wait to see them on the Peachtree stage. RKS is one of the acts that has us excited to hop on a plane to come to the Shaky Knees Festival. It is a certified can’t miss.
Green Day 9:20-11:00 PM
Of course, the day one headliner Green Day is a can’t miss to finish out Friday’s lineup. Having never seen the band with 214 award nominations and 92 wins is incredibly exciting. We can’t wait to close out the night at the Peachtree stage with the iconic group.
