Blake Rose just recently released his debut EP, and is quickly inserting himself as one of musics rising stars. The Australian born musician has already garnered over 150 million global streams. Now the rising star is impressing fans accompanying Noah Kahan on his North American tour.
Rose’s songwriting makes his support gig with Noah Kahan a great fit. Fans quickly gravitated to the music of the California based artist. The opening set from the sold out show was well attended and the audience could be heard singing along to Roses hit single ‘Lost.’
In just over a years time Blake Rose was able to go from busking in the streets of Perth to one of musics biggest rising stars. Seeing him perform it is easy to picture him capturing the eyes and ears of passerby’s on the Australian streets as he was winning the eyes and ears of a crowded Webster Hall.
Rose owned the room as he performed his single ‘Lady.’ Fans erupted in ovation following the song. The songwriter took the fanfare as his opportunity to introduce two rules for his set. The first rule was If you see someone dancing, you have to dance with them. Rule number two? If you see someone you think is cute, you have to get their number.
It was moments like this that created a sense of connection in the opening crowd. The ballroom continued to fill to the point of overflowing as Rose played a truly great setlist with songs such as ‘Gone’, ‘Hotel Room’, and ‘Sweet Caledonia’ from his recently released EP.
The singer-songwriter was a showman and had strong showings at guitar as well as a standing keyboard. He showed love to his band and mentioned how his bandmate looks like John B from Netflix’s Outer Banks just as the beginning notes of ‘Left Hand Free’ by alt-j rang throughout the venue.
Blake Rose did a brilliant job engaging the crowd and getting them ready for Noah Kahan to take the stage. His show was excellent and I would love to see him on a headline set of his own. For the crowd in attendance, whether they were fans of Blake Rose or introduced to him on Thursday night, it’s safe to say they left as fans of the soon to be star.
