Must See Acts at the First Sound on Sound Festival

Sound on Sound Festival is set to make its debut this weekend in Bridgeport, Connecticut on the bank of the Long Island Sound at the beautiful Seaside Park. The music festival features a stacked lineup of musical legends and rising stars. Sound on Sound Festival is headlined by Stevie Nicks and Dave Matthews Band with Tim Reynolds, and The Lumineers and is brought to you by the same people behind the iconic Governors Ball in New York City. Every hour of the festival features an incredible act and when writing a must see acts list could include every artist at the festival. However, we are still going to give you our favorites!

Saturday, September 24th – Sound on Sound

Trampled by Turtles

The famous bluegrass band Trampled by Turtles is set to take the Seaside Stage at 2:15 on Saturday afternoon and how can you miss them? It’s a surprise to have them playing a mid-day set, but that’s how good this Sound on Sound lineup is! The Minnesota-based sextet is sure to put on an amazing show on Saturday. The band got its start playing in punk and rock clubs and learned how to put an memorable show cutting their teeth there. The band has found a way to develop its classic sound across multiple instruments.

The Revivalists

The Revivalists are one of the bands that made me want to pursue a career in music, they must be on any list. The band is one of my favorite live acts and I was ecstatic they were brought in as a replacement when Black Pumas had to pull out of the festival. Their set at 4:30 on the Sunset stage is a cant miss.

Caamp

Caamp is another band that helped inspire me to pursue music, again this lineup is stacked and with a lot of bands I feel a close connection too. Caamp was one of the first bands on the road trip playlists I would make and remains a constant in all future playlists we make. We can’t wait to see them on the Seaside stage in Connecticut this weekend at 5:15.

The Lumineers

The Lumineers will always be a must see wherever they are. The band will be taking the Sunset Stage at 6:55, but still remain in the headline slot. The Lumineers are coming off of the release of their new album ‘Brightside,’ and the band bolsters a more electric sound and we look forward to seeing how it translates to their live show at Sound on Sound.

Father John Misty

I’ve never seen Father John Misty before, but have always wanted to and Saturday as the sun finishes setting on Saturday night. The Grammy Winning artist just released his Live at Electric Lady studio album and I have already been listening to it in excess to prep for this upcoming weekend. We can’t wait to see the must see, Father John Misty at 8:25 on Saturday night.

Stevie Nicks

Stevie Nicks is playing at 9:30 on the Seaside Stage. Do we need to see more? It’s an automatic can’t miss.

Sunday, September 25 – Sound on Sound

Trousdale

Trousdale is bound to become one of America’s favorite folk trios. The group’s sophomore EP, What Happiness Is, was my entry point into this group and quickly became one of our favorites. We look forward to seeing them Sunday in the early afternoon at the Seaside Stage at 12:45.

Jade Bird

Jade Bird is a rising star. She already bolsters millions of streams and for good reason. Bird’s songwriting is poetic and arranged in beautiful bright melodies despite the lyrics sometimes being a bit darker. We can’t wait to see and hear her voice for the first time live at 2:15 on the Seaside stage.

Noah Kahan

Noah Kahan has had a year unlike any artist. His single ‘Stick Season‘ almost immediately climbed the viral charts to the number one slot. Kahan just released the second single for his forthcoming album ‘Stick Season’ titled ‘Northern Attitude,’ which is quickly climbing the charts again. We’ve loved Kahan for years, but especially after his appearance on the Road Trip Playlists Podcast as well as his show at Webster Hall, which was one of our favorites of the year.

The Roots, Brandi Carlisle, and The National

All three of these acts were at Newport Folk Festival and were incredible and it feels special to be able to see them live again at Sound on Sound festival. All three are cant misses and the beauty of this festival is being able to be a few steps away from the next act.

Gary Clark Jr.

I’ve tried a few times and had to miss Gary Clark Jr. around the time of the pandemic and will finally see him at Sound on Sound and can’t wait to see him play on the Sunset Stage at 6:15.

Dave Matthews Band with Tim Reynolds

Dave Matthews Band was on the original road trip playlist I had growing up. It was on the road trip playlist my mom played that I had no part in choosing. So this band is very exciting to see close out the festival this weekend.
